Spotlights
The Learning and Teaching Enhancement Centre (LTEC) is proud to host an innovative series of academic development events known as ‘Spotlights.’ These events are a testament to the University of Salford’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth. Coordinated by LTEC, Spotlights illuminate each month on a different area of academic practice, bringing together the university’s brightest minds. The series includes guest presentations, discussions and debates, workshops, and development opportunities, all designed to delve into the nuances of the chosen theme and support colleagues to enhance their pedagogical skills.
The success of Spotlights is evident in the enthusiastic participation and positive feedback from the university community. These events have become a cornerstone of the University’s academic landscape, contributing significantly to the enhancement of teaching quality and the enrichment of the educational experience. While Spotlights are an internal initiative, their impact resonates beyond the confines of the university, setting a benchmark for academic excellence and collaborative learning. The University of Salford remains dedicated to advancing the frontiers of education through such pioneering programs.
Festival of Learning and Teaching
The University of Salford takes immense pride in its annual Festival of Learning and Teaching, a hallmark event that encapsulates the spirit of academic exploration and pedagogical innovation. Orchestrated by LTEC, the festival is a vibrant confluence of ideas, practices, and scholarly discourse. Held every September, the festival invites contributions from across the university, including guest lectures, workshops, and development opportunities. It revolves around a pivotal theme that reflects the key developmental and discussion points of the academic year, ensuring that the content is timely and impactful.
The Festival of Learning and Teaching is not merely an event; it’s a jubilant celebration of the student experience and the art of teaching. It’s a platform where educators and learners alike can share their insights, research, and innovations in teaching and learning. Moreover, it provides a unique opportunity for participants to disseminate their research work, with the potential to be published in a subsequent special edition journal article.
The success of the festival is a testament to the university’s dedication to educational excellence and its supportive environment for research and teaching. While the festival is an internal event, its success stories and the knowledge generated resonate far beyond the university’s walls, inspiring academic communities everywhere.
Salford Stars
Each year during December, the LTEC team, along with APVC Professor Jess Power and PVC Student Experience, host an annual afternoon tea at the Salford Museum and Art Gallery’s café. This event celebrates the leadership of high-achieving programmes in a National Student Survey (NSS) category targeted for improvement over the past year, highlighting the consistent excellence of the University of Salford in that area.
The event is a gathering to express gratitude to Programme and Subject Leaders, Directors, and Associate Deans for their outstanding performance in the NSS. The celebration serves as a platform for reflection on institutional best practices and encourages the exchange of ideas and techniques among colleagues from various disciplines. It is a light-hearted occasion designed to foster networking and sharing of successful strategies.
Key discussion points include strategies for student success and sharing insights of best practice for mutual learning. The LTEC team supports these conversations and captures the collective wisdom on themed placemats and gold stars, making it a memorable and insightful annual tradition. The learning feeds into our Spotlight programme and best practice exchange.
